The Catskill Center for Independence is one of New York State’s 41 independent living centers.
Founded in 1987, the Catskill Center for Independence (CCFI) is a not-for-profit New York State corporation whose primary purpose is the development and implementation of programs and services promoting and facilitating independence in everyday living for persons with a disabling condition.
The Center’s philosophy is to provide the individual with opportunities to develop the skills and resources necessary for the attainment of living as independently as possible in the community.
The Center offers a number of direct services to its consumers including benefits advisement, employment readiness, employment assistance, independent living skills training, assistance in securing housing, transportation, education, accommodations, service coordination, transition services to students with disabilities exiting high school, and transition services to institutionalized individuals who wish to live in the community.
Catskill Center for Independence assists people with disabilities to achieve independence in everyday life.
Welcome to the Catskill Center for Independence! The Center was established in 1987 as a satellite office of the Southern Tier Independence Center in Binghamton. In 1988 the Center became a self-governing not for profit independent living center.
Over the years the Center has worked with thousands of people with disabilities and their families. We have assisted hundreds of businesses, agencies and municipalities to remove physical and programmatic barriers. We believe our Center has been instrumental in changing people’s prejudicial and negative perceptions and expectations of people with disabilities.
As a “Community of One” we are dedicated to serving all individuals with disabilities regardless of age, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, lifestyle, or religion. I have the honor of working with an amazing staff who are passionate about our mission and about helping those we serve. As an independent living center at least 51% of our board of directors must be individuals with disabilities. Many of us who work here also have personal experience with one or more disabilities. That is, I believe, largely what makes us so zealous in our efforts to ensure everyone has the opportunity to fully participate in every aspect of life and community living.
Please join us in our efforts.
